Tinted is a layer of coloured film that adhere to the car window or winscreens. they come in with multiple visibility rates and thickness can vary depending on the brands or specifications.
Window tint adds a protective film to the vehicle’s glass, helping to:
☀️ Reduce heat inside the vehicle
Helps keep the cabin cooler, especially under hot sunlight.
🕶️ Reduce glare while driving
Makes driving more comfortable by reducing harsh sunlight and glare.
🛡️ Block harmful UV rays
Helps protect passengers and the vehicle interior from UV exposure.
🔒 Improve privacy
Makes it harder for people outside to see into the vehicle.
✨ Protect the interior
Helps reduce fading/dulling and damage to seats, dashboard, and interior surfaces.
Tint films come in different thicknesses, usually measured in mil. Different thicknesses can provide different levels of strength and glass protection.
🔹 1–1.5 Mil — Standard Film
Lightweight and commonly used for basic tinting, heat reduction, and UV protection.
🔹 2 Mil — Stronger Film
Offers better durability and slightly more support to the glass.
🔹 4 Mil — Safety Film
Helps hold broken glass together during impact or accidents, reducing flying glass fragments.
🔹 6 Mil — Enhanced Safety Film
Provides stronger glass reinforcement and better resistance against impact.
🔹 8 Mil & Above — Security Film
Designed for higher impact resistance and stronger glass protection, making the window harder to break through quickly.
The Official Rule: According to the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Malaysia under the Motor Vehicles (Prohibition of Certain Types of Glass) Rules 1991, using any form of removable sunshade, blind, or curtain while the vehicle is moving is considered an offence and as for tinting;
Front Windscreen: Minimum of 70% VLT (can be up to 30% dark)
Front Side Windows: Minimum of 50% VLT (can be up to 50% dark)
Rear Side Windows & Rear Windscreen: No restriction (can be fully black/0% VLT)
